Hungarian - German Pianist Julian von Karolyi (1914-1993) studied with Erno Dohnanyi and Alfred Cortot. He excelled in the romantic repertoire, possessed a prodigious virtuoso technique and was particularly known for his interpretations of Chopin and Liszt. He made his debut in 1929 performing the E-flat concerto by Mozart, and won the interest of Bela Bartok. During his life he toured across the globe performing with the most prominent orchestras, including in Berlin, Paris, London, Prague, Riga, and the United States. He took a position as professor at the University of Music Wurzburg in 1972. Von Karolyi recorded for both Deutsche Gramophone and Electrola. Presented here are von Karolyi's only studio recordings of works by Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert.
